Abstract
The report contains summary analyses and brief narrative descriptions of each of the fifty Research Applied to National Needs (RANN) projects, for which the Research Triangle Institute had prepared utilization case studies. The analyses and project descriptions are based on objective measures and factual information contained in the individual utilization case study reports. Three summary analyses are included in this report. The analyses include the fifty case studies as a group, by level of utilization, and by area of application of the research product. Individual narrative descriptions of each of the case studies is also included. These descriptive summaries are structured by project descriptions, research summaries dissemination summaries, user impact, and project characteristics. The analyses are keyed to the last of these parameters and to the level of utilization that was developed in a companion report. For the 50 RANN projects covered there is a correlation between level of utilization and perceived user value. A similar correlation is indicated between level of utilization and research quality, as reflected by the users' subjective evaluations of the research.
