Abstract
The report contains case studies of the utilization of research results of ten Research Applied to National Needs (RANN) projects that were selected as representative of less utilized research efforts. The selection of these case studies was based on data obtained in a sample survey designed to determine the extent of utilization of RANN research projects that were initiated in the fiscal years 1972 and 1973. The case study is one utilization tool wherein an individual project is examined, its utilization determined, the various factors that apparently affect its utilization are identified, and conclusions are derived relative to its utilization experience. The objective of these case studies was to identify and describe the specific utilization of the projects in an accurate and comprehensive manner. In meeting this objective, it was necessary to some extent, to include a discussion of the nature of the research and the project itself. These case studies were preceded by forty-one other studies that were previously prepared and distributed in other volumes.
