Abstract
The Natural Hazards Research and Applications Information Center is intended to disseminate recent information on natural hazards and its application to urgent problems relating to national, state, and local policy on natural hazards. This newsletter advances the exchange of information among workers in the natural hazard field. Some of the topics discussed in this issue include: Heeding warnings; the Palmdale Bulge Study; Australian natural hazard research; natural hazard insurance; a predicted volcano eruption; disasters and mental health; a new emergency broadcast system; tornado knowledge; flood plain regulation; long-range impacts of natural disasters; flood hazard reduction standards; Appalachian hazards; and recovery processes in natural disasters.
