Abstract
This paper provides, in tabular form, extensive summary data about nine categories of federally declared disaster: ice and snow event; hurricanes/tropical storms; earthquakes; dam and levee failures; rains, storms, and flooding (including landslides and debris flows); high winds and waves; coastal storms and flooding; tornadoes; and drought/water shortages. Data are primarily provided by FEMA or the Red Cross, although some other sources--primarily the insurance industry--are also cited. Included are such items as number of persons killed or injured, dwellings destroyed or damaged, federal assistance outlay, and insurance payments. Besides the actual data, the summary also includes a list of 'Sources of Incidence Data for Selected Natural Disasters' that should be useful in any search for disaster statistics and information.
