Abstract
This edition reports on a hurricane evacuation exercise conducted by the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council and notes the formation of an Interagency Coordinating Committee to facilitate the management of the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program. The provisions of the Coastal Barrier Resources Act are listed and a Government Accounting Office document suggests that the Federal Emergency Management Agency can improve the method of getting disaster aid to governments that need it. The highlights of a report on the consequences of, and preparation for, a large earthquake in California are presented. It is predicted that two of the three major aqueduct systems that cross the San Andreas Fault will be ruptured; imported crude oil from the San Joaquin Valley will be lost from the pipelines that cross the Fault; and telephone communications will be severely hampered. Conferences and publications are listed, and grants awarded are described.
