Abstract
The research undertaken for the project is part of the U.S.-Japan Coordinated Program for Masonry Building Research. Each category of the program is conducted under the supervision of the Technical Coordinating Committee for Masonry Research (TCCMAR). The objective of the overall research program is to elevate masonry structural analyses, design, and construction practice to a level comparable to structural steel and reinforced concrete technology. The objectives of the research project were to determine the basic failure modes, ascertain behavioral characteristics, and investigate analytical properties for the full-scale testing of precast, prestressed hollow-core plank diaphragms subjected to in-plane shear.
