Abstract
FEMA 271 outlines the need for lifeline seismic design guidelines and standards; a strategy for development and implementation; roles of the private and public sectors in the implementation; a recommended approach to guidelines and standards development; and suggestions for management, coordination, implementation, funding and scheduling. The objective of the workshop was to assess FEMA 271 and recommend the best way it could be implemented through partnership between the private sector, private and public utilities, and the federal government.
