Abstract
The Washington State Military Department Emergency Management Division (EMD) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) sponsored a two-day Puget Sound Tsunami/Landslide Workshop held at the NOAA/Western Regional Center in Seattle on January 23 through 24, 2001. The workshop is part of ongoing work by the emergency management and scientific communities to forge a partnership to address tsunami and landslide hazards in the Puget Sound region. The organizers' primary goal for the workshop was to provide a forum for discussing the current level of understanding of tsunami and landslide hazards in Puget Sound. Because this understanding has scientific, geotechnical, public policy and emergency response components, the workshop presented these issues in an interdisciplinary forum. The workshop goals were to provide an atmosphere to consider partnerships to address tsunami and landslide hazards in the Puget Sound region and to develop an action plan to outline a systematic program to address issues surrounding landslides and tsunamis.
