Abstract
These proceedings document the results of the Fourth U.S.-Japan Workshop on Earthquake Disaster Prevention for Lifeline Systems held on August 19-21, 1992, in Los Angeles, California. The theme of the workshop focused on Future Directions for Research, Application, and Design of Lifeline Systems. Technical topics discussed include: effects of soils on lifeline components; seismic design and retrofit of lifeline systems; dynamic response and analysis of lifeline systems; repair and rehabilitation oflifeline systems; system reliabilitymethods for lifeline systems; post-earthquake damage detection procedures; socioeconomic and environmental impact oflifline system failurel; and emergency and disaster response management oflifeline systems.
